Windlass

Windlass

A windlass is a device that makes it easier to raise and lower the anchor. In the past they were manual, but nowadays electric ones are used. They are most often controlled by a remote control on the cable, although on newer yachts there are special panels at the skipper’s station or wireless remote controls.

What to keep in mind when using a windlass:

  • An anchor lift uses a lot of energy, so use it when the engine is running while the batteries are being charged.
  • When releasing and pulling out the chain, be careful and make sure nothing gets between the chain and the anchor lift modes.
