A gangway is a kind of bridge or folding staircase for going from yacht to land and vice versa. It is installed when there is too much distance between the yacht and the platform to leave the boat safely.

On smaller boats the gangway can be a simple board, on larger yachts the gangways are equipped with railings or handrail lines. The gangways can also be folded or retracted, either manually or with an electrical or hydraulic mechanism.

What should you keep in mind when using a gangway?

• A gangway that is not permanently mounted on the yacht must be tied so that it does not fall into the water.
• Pass the gangway carefully but firmly and do not overload it.
• When using a mechanically folding gangway, be careful not to hit the waterfront with it.
