Bimini

Bimini

Bimini is a kind of a hood above the cockpit to protect mainly from the sun. Usually a bimini is supported by a metal frame. A bimini can be unfolded if you want to provide some shade, and then folded when you don't need it anymore. Usually a bimini protects the crew in the cockpit from the rain as well, although this is usually not its main task.

What should you remember when using a bimini?

  • It is always a good idea to check if the bimini is installed correctly so that it does not break off and get damaged during sailing.
  • In more severe weather conditions, you should consider folding your bimini so that it does not get caught in the wind.
  • The bimini gives only partial protection from the rain, and rather in windless weather, a lot depends on the shape and material of the bimini.
